Casting Skills Centre: Global NVQ’s
|
Challenge:
The Casting Skills Centre, which provides a complete training service to a wide range of organisations who
utilise casting in their operations. This is a world-wide service and clearly distance is a major barrier
in providing an effective solution. The Casting Skills Centre is is only one of a small number of training
providers who are EMTA approved centres for delivery of NVQ’s within the field of casting and need to support
learners at many different location, even as far away as Australia!
Solution:
The Casting Skills Centre team have developed a unique secure CD delivery support system which is linked to
the Virtual College TMS. Trainees log onto the Internet using a username and password to reach their own
Professional Development area. This contains all the training modules for which the trainee is registered.
The trainee selects a training module and receives information about: how to use the controls; CSC information;
contact details for support tutors; and access to the training material. The interactive training material
incorporates audio, text, animations and video clips, with live access to a CSC tutor via a webcam, when
required.
Learners are supported through the portfolio development process and are given intermediate
assessments to validate progress and re-enforce their learning. Tutors provide on-going support through a
number of channels including web meetings and forums.
Benefits:
By creating a blended approach, utilising a mixture of delivery formats which are supported by online
assessment and tutoring it has been possible to engage learners over a geographical distance which would
have been impossible by any other means.
Learner feedback has been great and the their employers are enthused.
