The e-portfolio tool provides a complete online solution to the generation of
portfolio evidence to support evidence based qualifications such as NVQ’s.
The system allows the creation of a range of portfolio questions to be generated,
which are then allocated to the learners training record. The learner reviews each
of the portfolio questions and undertakes the suggested task, gathering the necessary
evidence resources. These are entered into the system and when completed the learner can
submit these to the Assessor for review. This submission process flags the need for
review to the Assessor, who then reviews the submission and records the feedback into
the system. The learners training record is updated with the feedback and the learner
can then take any further actions suggested by the Assessor.
The system keeps a full audit trail of all Assessor/Verifier inputs/comments,
which can be used to demonstrate evidence of the assessor/learner interaction.
This system has been utilised by a number of organisation to help improve the
effectiveness of the Assessor/Verification process. A key benefit of the online solution
is that the need for face to face audit activity can be reduced and when visits do take place,
the Assessor can get a good understanding of learners portfolio status, ensuring that there
is sufficient evidence in place to make a visit worthwhile.
Virtual College has been utilising its e-portfolio system for supporting
NVQ delivery over the last 5 years and in November 2003 was named the SQA Centre of the Year.
The prestigious accolade was achieved based on it’s innovative delivery of NVQ’s within the
electronics industry.
