Food Hygiene - Overview
The aim of this food hygiene training module is to raise understanding and achieve good standards of food safety and hygiene. Upon completion learners will have an understanding of a wide range of key food safety issues, including the three main types of food safety hazard, their sources and methods of control. Learners will know the correct temperatures needed for storage and food handling activities from delivery through to sale, and be aware of common food pests and how to control them, along with the principles of cleaning and disinfection and how these apply to the workplace.
Structure
This Food Hygiene module is structured into a number of learning activities which are supported by graphics, animations, a wide range of challenges and a quiz.
Target audience
This food safety and hygiene module is aimed at anyone working in a role that involves contact with food, or the management of such people; regulations require that anyone involved in food handling must be appropriately trained in food safety. The module can be used either as Induction, Awareness, Refresher or Foundation Training.
Online assessment
Online assessment is provided through the use of the Virtual College's TMS, which offers a complete online assessment linked to an individual's training record. On completion of the training, trainees will sit the on-line test.
Training Material
The online training material used in the course is annually quality checked by the Royal Institute of Public Health for use as self-study food safety training material at level 2 (formerly known as Foundation or Basic Food Hygiene at Level 1). On completion of the training and successfully passing the on-line test, trainees will receive a Virtual College Certificate. Certificates are issued within 10 working days of successful completion.
