The Virtual College has developed an online Learner Profiling System (LPS), which has been designed to assist Training Providers in the profiling of prospective learners. The system currently provides a detailed diagnostic across 3 key areas:

  • Personality Provides an online diagnostic around 9 key personality traits (Leadership, Teamwork, Confidence, Reliability, Caring, Attention to detail, Outspoken, Meeting deadlines & planning), helping to provide the learner and the training provider with a better understanding of their personality.

  • Interests Provides an online diagnostic around 9 sectors areas (Construction, Retail, Business Admin, Automotive, Care, Hospitality, Hair & Beauty) to provide guidance on sector choice. Once a sector has been identified with a high interest, then the tool triggers a more detailed diagnostic review for that sector structured to identify specific job roles e.g. Construction: Plumbing, Joinery, Electrician, Plasterer, Roofer, Bricklayer, etc. This part of the diagnostic also introduces questions, which expose some of the 'negative' aspects of the roles e.g.: Working in the rain, wearing safety boots etc, to ensure that the individual gets a complete understanding of the role, 'warts and all'.

  • Key Skills Provides an online diagnostic around each of the main key skills. The system establishes the current level position of the learner and then probes their detailed knowledge to identify the gaps in their understanding.

All the diagnostic activity is automatically marked, giving instant feedback in the format of a learner profile and all results are automatically added to the learner's online training record. The learner and the system manager can view this record. The system manager can generate a wide range of online reports around individual or group performance

Where required, the diagnostic process can automatically trigger appropriate learning resources to help the learner start to address any gaps that might have been identified.

The profiling tool utilises generic features within the Virtual College TMS and can be easily structured to create new profile activities.
